Each LEL Region has 5 sets of Traffic Safety Checkpoint Equipment. It is available on a first come basis so schedule it as soon as possible. If you need Checkpoint training every LEL can provide training for your department.


DESCRIPTION: A law enforcement procedure wherein police officers utilize a systematic method of stopping vehicles at selected locations to ensure compliance with driver and vehicle standards according to statute and PaDot regulations.


OBJECTIVE: To increase the risk of detection of driver license and vehicle violations thereby providing deterrence of those violations and ensuring compliance with statutes and regulations.


GOAL: To decrease death, injury and property damage caused by unlicensed drivers and unsafe vehicles.
TRAINING: Police departments must attend the TIPS Safety Checkpoint Training Course before conducting Checkpoints.


EQUIPMENT: The equipment necessary to operate a Traffic Safety Checkpoint is available for use to all police departments.

Crash Data Retrieval System

The Vetronix Crash Data Retrieval System is available for use by police agencies.


The system allows for the download of Pre-Crash and Crash data from a vehicle`s air bag module. The system currently interfaces with GM and Ford vehicles, with Toyota coming online in the near future.
