Traffic Safety Checkpoint EquipmentEach LEL Area has 5 sets of Traffic Safety Checkpoint Equipment. It is available on a first come basis so schedule it as soon as possible. If you need Checkpoint training every LEL can provide training for your department. DESCRIPTION: A law enforcement procedure wherein police officers utilize a systematic method of stopping vehicles at selected locations to ensure compliance with driver and vehicle standards according to statute and PaDot regulations. OBJECTIVE: To increase the risk of detection of driver license and vehicle violations thereby providing deterrence of those violations and ensuring compliance with statutes and regulations. GOAL: To decrease death, injury and property damage caused by unlicensed drivers and unsafe vehicles. TRAINING: Police departments must attend the TIPS Safety Checkpoint Training Course before conducting Checkpoints. EQUIPMENT: The equipment necessary to operate a Traffic Safety Checkpoint is available for use to all police departments. Neighborhoods, school zones and dangerous roads could use a little help in promoting compliance with the speed limit. The Speed Display Trailer is a way to get drivers to Slow Down.
